Inflation in Belarus at 0.4% in October

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – In October 2009, inflation in Belarus was running at 0.4%, Alexander Lobanov, chief of the main monetary policy and economic analysis department of the National Bank said at a seminar of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly dedicated to the problems and prospects of Belarus’ banking system. According to him, inflation is expected to stay under 11% this year. In January-September 2009 the Consumer Price Index upped by 7.9% as against December 2008. The food price index in September 2009 made up 100% as against August 2009. Thus, the food prices remained the same, while in December 2008 they increased by 5.3%. The Consumer Price Index is projected to increase by 9-11% in 2009.
