Belarusian art exhibition opens Chernobyl week at UN

The first Belarusian art exhibition at the UN headquarters marked the beginning of a series of events timed to the 22nd anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, BelTA learnt from Belarus’ Permanent Representative Office at the UN. The exhibition features the works of the Belarusian artist Zoya Lutsevich which she created while visiting the United States. The exhibition was organized by Belarus’ Permanent Representative Office at the UN with the assistance of two non-governmental organizations: Mondano (US) and Chernobyl Children’s Project International (Ireland- US). Attending the opening ceremony of the exhibition were heads of the UN diplomatic missions, members of the UN Secretariat, American citizens and representative of the Belarusian community in the US. The exhibition will stay open till May 2. The permanent representative offices of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine at the UN, United Nations Development Programme will hold a series of activities in the UN headquarters. These activities include an extended session–space bridge of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Chernobyl, demonstration of the Belarusian documentary about flora and fauna of the Polesye radiation-ecologic reserve.
