Belarus to mark 130th anniversary of birth Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 487 “On the events to mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas.” The document was signed on 25 October to ensure celebration of the jubilee of the classics of Belarusian literature, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian leader. The Decree approved the composition of the nationwide organizing committee for the events to mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas, and the plan of activities for the anniversary. The plan provides for organizing, in the country and abroad, commemorative celebrations, thematic literary programs on television and radio, publishing of the works of the writers and books about their life and work. The plan also provides for nationwide poetry festivities, beautification of historical and cultural sites associated with the life and works of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas, major repairs of the buildings of literary museums and other activities.
