Belarus reports foreign trade surplus for January

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – In January 2010 Belarus posted a $123.7mn surplus of foreign trade in goods and services, according to the website of the National Bank of Belarus, BelTA has learnt. In January 2009 Belarus had a foreign trade deficit of $323.9 million. According to the National Bank, in January 2010 the foreign trade in goods and services was up by 18.1% to $4.035 billion. Export surged by 34.5% to $2.079 billion, import inched up by 4.6% to $1.956 billion. In January the foreign trade in goods and services made up $3.578 billion, up 17.8% over January 2009. Export amounted to $1.781 billion (up 37.8%), import made up $1.797 billion (up 3%). The deficit of merchandise trade came to $16.5 million (as against $452.1 million in January last year). In January 2010 the foreign trade in services increased by 20.4% to $457.4 million. Export was up by 17.6% to $298.8 million, import by 26% to $158.6 million. Surplus of trade in services reached $140.2 million, up $12 million from January last year.
