Second heart transplantation operation performed in Belarus

MINSK, March 27 (BelTA) – The second heart transplantation operation was performed in Belarus on the night of March 25/26, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Health Ministry. According to Alexander Mrochek, director of the Cardiology research and practical centre, the heart was transplanted into a 55-year-old man with dilated cardiomyopathy. The heart transplant was delivered by helicopter from Brest. The surgery was conducted in the Cardiology research and practical centre. According to doctors, the patient is feeling as expected after such a surgery. He is conscious and is taken off artificial lung ventilation The first heart transplant surgery was performed in Belarus on the night of February 11/12. The 36-year-old heart transplant patient suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy. The heart of the patient contracts well, all the physiological parameters are normal. The patient is to be discharged today, March 27.
