More preferences promised to foreign investors in Belarus

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – More preferences will be granted to foreign investors in Belarus via amendments to Belarus president decree No. 10 of 6 August 2009, Sergei Trofimovich, Head of the Central Office for Investments of the Belarusian Economy Ministry, told media on 7 October. Last year the decree considerably boosted investment efforts in Belarus, said the official. Since then 255 investment contracts worth about $11 billion has been signed. Contracts with Belarusian investors account for about 70%. The money has been channeled mainly into setting up logistics centers, motorway service, and tourism facilities. As an institution investment agents have started working in Belarus. There are seven registered investment agents now, which seek investors. A new edition of the Investment Code of Belarus is being prepared. All these measures as well as enhancement of investment regulations will contribute to attracting foreign investors to Belarus, believes Sergei Trofimovich.
