Lukashenko: only promising projects will receive financial support

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – The state will keep providing support to the Belarusian cinema, but only new and promising projects will be financed, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with prominent Belarusian artistes to discuss the national cinema on 9 September, BelTA has learnt. “We will definitely support this important art; the financing will be increased, but the money will be earmarked only for new and promising projects,” the President said. In his words, the state can also act as a customer for some movies, but not solely as a customer, not in the way it has been before, but on a competition basis. “It does not matter who will be the customer, be it our TV channels, or private companies or our famous company which, I beg your pardon, hovers in the outskirts of art like a limp mare,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
