Lukashenko: No more borrowing to support the Belarusian ruble

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Belarus is not going to borrow more in order to support the exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the government session held on 30 August to discuss social and economic development matters.

“Whatever the situation, we will proceed taking into account the demand and supply,” the President noted.

“Today it is high time the administrative resources were maximally involved to implement the plans we have outlined. The administrative resources and methods of force however cannot be used in what concerns the economy. Everything should be done wisely and rationally, and you know what to do,” the head of state stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the total responsibility would be on governors and the mayor of Minsk. “Do as we have decided to act and explain the population every step you make,” the President said.

The Belarusian leader believes that mass media does not do its best to explain the population the real situation in the economy. “Everybody needs to rearrange, be it media, bankers, others,” the President said.

“Let us agree that we will act as an organic whole to show those who wish to see an economic dislocation here that we are a monolith and are able to address any problem we face. We have everything necessary to address the current issues. Once we have outlined the course, we should follow it,” Alexander Lukashenko underlined.
