Brazilian Embassy opens in Minsk

The Embassy of Brazil has opened in Minsk, Charge d'Affaires of Brazil to Belarus Jose Eduardo Giraudo told reporters on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

According to Jose Eduardo Giraudo, Brazil’s Ambassador is expected to arrive in Minsk on 13 June. He stressed that the year 2010 was marked by two important events in the history of Belarusian-Brazilian relations. They are the visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Brazil and the opening of the Belarusian Embassy in this country. “The opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Belarus is an important step to consolidate our relations,” the diplomat said.

“The Embassy is expected to promote political, economic and humanitarian relations. We are convinced that the Embassy of Brazil in Belarus will encourage bilateral trade, mutual investments, diversification of exports, promote tourism as the parties are involved in talks to facilitate tourist entrance,” Jose Eduardo Giraudo said.

According to him, Belarus' industry and economy are rather advanced. Brazil is eager to cooperate in machine engineering, dump trucks and electronics production, professional training.

As for the agreements made during the visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Brazil, Jose Eduardo Giraudo said: “We are currently working on concrete implementation and we hope to do our utmost to implement top-level agreements.”
