Belarus, India interested in joint movie projects

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The Culture Ministry of Belarus and the Embassy of India seek closer cooperation in movie making. This topic was top on the agenda during a meeting between Culture Minister of Belarus Pavel Latushko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Manoj Kumar Bharti on 16 June, BelTA learnt from Culture Ministry Spokesperson Anna Smolskaya.

According to her, Pavel Latushko and Manoj Kumar Bharti gave a special priority to cooperation in movie making. They agreed to arrange a visit of Indian movie producers to Belarus, considered a possibility of using technological and studio services of the National Film Studio Belarusfilm by India and sending Belarusian moviemakers and students of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts to study in India. Pavel Latushko and Manoj Kumar Bharti discussed participation of Indian moviemakers in the international film festival Listapad.

The parties considered the elaboration of a bilateral cooperation program in culture, art, education and mass media for 2011-2013 which is to be signed at the session of the Belarus-India intergovernmental commission in September 2011. Pavel Latushko and Manoj Kumar Bharti emphasized the importance of arranging Indian cultural events in Belarus, a possibility to translate works of famous Belarusian and Indian authors into the state languages of the two countries and the study of Hindi at Belarusian universities. The ambassador expressed readiness to help the Culture Ministry publish the Hindi version of the works of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas timed to the 130th anniversary of the great Belarusian poets in 2012.
