Belarus-India economic cooperation commission to meet in Minsk in autumn

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – A session of the Belarus-India commission for trade and economic cooperation is planned to be held in Minsk in autumn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ramesh Chander said at a solemn reception dedicated to the Independence Day of India, BelTA has learnt. The head of the Indian diplomatic mission noted that the trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and India is gaining momentum, despite the consequences of the global crisis. The forthcoming session will not only review the progress in promoting trade and economic links over the previous period, it will also identify and outline new cooperation avenues, taking into consideration the present day conditions. The diplomat said that many Indian companies and businessmen express sincere interest in establishing partner relations with Belarusian businesspeople. The ambassador emphasized that a session of the Belarus-India commission for sci-tech cooperation is set to be held within the next months as well. Ramesh Chander pointed out to the similarity of positions of India and Belarus regarding the major points of the international agenda. According to the diplomat, India makes a considerable contribution to promoting peace and security in the region. Belarus’ Industry Minister Alexander Radevich noted that India is an important economic partner of Belarus and that Belarus-India relations have a bright future. The both states are deepening trade, economic, sci-tech and cultural cooperation. The countries have launched joint investment projects. For example, India’s BHEL signed a contract to upgrade the Grodno power plant. “We are expecting major Indian investors to come to Belarus to materialize new joint projects,” the minister said.
