Belarus, Cuba to develop cooperation in biotechnology

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Cuba intend to develop cooperation in biotechnologies, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Belarus Alfredo Nieves Portuondo told a video briefing on 3 June, BelTA has learnt.

In his words, bilateral cooperation in medicine, development of new pharmaceutical drugs has big prospects. These issues will be discussed in detail during a visit of a delegation of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba to Belarus next week.

There are other areas where the two sides can implement joint projects. According to Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, Cuba is well familiar with Belarusian tractors, combine harvesters, trucks, refrigerators, buses, gas cookers. “I think the prospects for further cooperation are great,” said the ambassador. Now Cuba is discussing the country's new economic development model adapted to modern conditions.

The ambassador views trilateral projects involving Belarus, Cuba and Venezuela as promising. There are all conditions for that. The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla has recently visited Belarus, he added.
