Belarus adopts national strategy of development and management of conservation areas by 2015

The government of Belarus issued Resolution No. 1920 to approve the national strategy of development and management of conservation areas by 2015. As BelTA was told in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the document is aimed at forming such a system of conservation areas which would cover various types of eco-systems, which are valuable and important for preserving the diversity of natural complexes including the habitats for rare and endangered flora and fauna species. The national strategy is also aimed at harmonising the interests of economic development of country and rational usage of its natural reserves on the one hand and preserving bio-and landscape diversity and guaranteeing constitutional rights of Belarusian citizens for healthy environment on the other. The legislation of the country identifies the government agencies interested in the formation of an effective system of conservation areas. The national strategy provides for some improvement of the legislation on the basis of modern technological advance, programmes and promising plans of socio-economic development of the country. The national strategy of development and management of conservation areas by 2015 has been developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus.
